Presidential Investiture of Dr. Kimberly Rogers

Community. Dignity. Hope. ran through yesterday's Presidential Investiture of Dr. Kimberly Rogers.

Dr. Rogers has already led Contra Costa College with such grace, thoughtfulness, and compassion as the Interim College President and I’m so excited for her to continue her work as the permanent College President.

Monument impact: stronger together gala

Wonderful evening supporting Monument Impact and all the work that they do serving Concord and Antioch.

Monument Impact is actually running a Universal Basic Income program, fighting for tenants rights, giving out small business grants, and many different community classes from music to small businesses lessons.

The amazing staff and board members make this nonprofit possible and they are really helping the most valuable in our community. Honored to spend an evening in support of them.

LMC: CelebratING Hispanic heritage MONTH

Campus events are a big part of the campus community and student life at Community College. Last week I joined Los Medanos College for their Hispanic HeritageMonth Fair where students organized booths for different Latin American countries.

Each booth showed stories of each country’s history, food, music, and art. The best part for me was talking to students who were so passionate about their culture and history and learning how it impacts their educational journey.

Full time - free tuition

Free Community College? Yes, please!

This year we have expanded our First Time, Full Time, Free Tuition program to be… Full Time, Free Tuition! So if you enroll at DVC, LMC, or CCC and maintain 12 units, your Community College tuition is FREE.

Plus you can look for classes that use FREE Online Educational Resources aka free online textbooks to lower your costs even more. This is all part of our efforts to expand college access by reducing financial barriers to higher education.

So yes, there has never been a better time to enroll in DVC, LMC, or CCC!

refugee student supports

Proud that the Contra Costa Community College District is partnering with Welcome Corps to welcome refugee students through their Welcome Corps on Campus program.

This is a new targeted education sponsorship initiative that enables U.S. colleges and universities to play a leading role in resettling refugee students. The Welcome Corps on Campus operates under the umbrella of the Welcome Corps, the broader U.S. private sponsorship program that was launched by the U.S. Department of State in January 2023 for refugees admitted through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).

More than 145 diverse institutions and organizations with expertise in higher education, resettlement, and refugee rights expressed support for the program, which provides an education pathway to citizenship for refugee students.

Concord: pride on the plaza

Concord Pride On The Plaza filled my heart with joy. I remember growing up in Concord when some pretty ugly things were publicly tolerated and now we stand up and rally to share joy and pride for our LGBTQIA+ siblings.

And it was so exciting to see Diablo Valley College tabling at today’s event! I love to see our college showing up at community events, especially events supporting some of the most marginalized students.

Did you know DVC is the first Community College to have a dedicated learning community for LGBTQIA+ students? Something new I learned today! Use the link below to learn more about the DVC Pride Learning Community.

SUPPORTING CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE FOUNDATION

Had a fabulous time last night at Riggers Loft Wine Company supporting the Contra Costa College Foundation and all their great work supporting Contra Costa College students!

Each of our colleges has a foundation that provides support to the campus and students. The foundations provide scholarships, housing grants, funds to support campus career closets, and much more.
